English River takes 4th straight with win over Minnesota

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The English River Miners jumped out to an early lead to help send them on their way to their fourth straight victory, an 8-4 decision over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Tuesday at Cochenour Arena.

Landon Russell got English River started 5:16 into the contest before Jordan Baranesky and Ryan Patterson upped the home side’s cushion.

Mihali See got one back for Minnesota at 17:55 to pull within two heading into the middle stanza.

The Miners came out quickly in the second period as well notching markers from Sam Cirone at even strength and Jacob Siebenga shorthanded to go up 5-1 before the session was five minutes old.

See scored again for his second of the night and 10th overall during a man advantage at 13:58.

English River’s Cody Milgate and the Iron Ranger’s Max Sturko traded tallies in the back half of the frame to make it 6-3 Miners after 40 minutes.

Third period play saw Zac Horn pick up his club’s third extra man marker 44 seconds into the session to pull Minnesota back to within a pair only to see Stratton Pickett answer for the Miners at 6:13.

Pickett then wrapped up the scoring by connecting again in the late going to finish things off offensively.

Shots on goal on the night saw the Miners hold a 43-35 edge with Westin Cardwell recording the win.

Tyler Thompson started for the Iron Rangers and allowed four against on 16 attempts while Jaeger Reed suffered the loss in nearly 38 minutes of relief giving up the final four on 26 shots.
