Ice Dogs @ Miners – October 27, 2017

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs on a 2 game winning streak made their way up the 105 to face the English River Miners who were looking to extend their home winning streak to 4.  Isaac Labelle would get the start between the pipes for the Ice Dogs and Michael Lenko got the start for the Miners.

After killing off an early penalty English River would open the scoring just as the first penalty of a 5 on 3 power play expired.  Jared Janke scored off of a Kyle Rosolowski pass at 8:14  to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Janke would score his 10th of the season on the power play at 15:50. With Trevor Kavanaugh serving a 4 min spearing penalty Janke completed his hat trick at 17:03 chasing Labelle from the net. Justin Anderson would come in for the Ice Dogs but didn’t have any better luck.  Stratton Pickett scored his 2nd  of the year and the Miners 4th power play goal at 17:46.  After 20 minutes of play the Miners had a 4-0 lead and a 10-8 edge for shots.

The second period started with  a quick goal for the Miners.  Red Lake’s own Jordan Baranesky would score his 2nd goal as a Miner 54 seconds into the period with assists going to Janke and Pickett. From there it was all Ice Dogs. Dryden GM would take over the play and fire 20 shots  at Lenko  in the second.  Lenko would stand his ground and after 40 minutes  of play the English River Miners led the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 5-0.

The third period started out with the Ice Dogs continuing to pressure the Miners.  Penalty issues would kill all the momentum the Ice Dogs were trying to gain.  With a 5 on 3 man advantage Jared Janke scored his 4th of the game at 6:04 of the 3rd period. Still on a man advantage Janke scored his 5th of the game and  13th of the season at 8:41.   The remaining 11:19 would be penalty filled.  Dryden GM would finally beat Lenko at 14:49 when  Jacen Bracko scored his 10th of the year on  the power play.  Michael Lenko would shut the door the rest of the way stopping 41 shots on the night collecting his 3rd win.

Tonight’s Goldcorp “Hard to Play Against” hard hat went to Jared Janke who led the Miners with his “Golden Sombrero” 5 goals, 1 assist. Kyle Rosolowski had 4 assists and  Stratton Pickett had 1 goal, 2 assists.

Next up for the Miners is a trip down the 105 to Dryden Saturday October 28th for the second game of a home & home with the Ice Dogs.
