Lakers @ Miners – December 18, 2017

The Fort Frances Lakers made the trek up highway 105 to the Cochenour Arena to face the English River Miners who were coming off a 2 win weekend. Michael Lenko would get the call between the pipes for the Miners while Ismael Ralsten would get his first start against the Miners.

Miners got a quick jump as Matt O’Neill would score his 7th of the year 48 seconds into the first period giving the Miners a 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived as Jack Bernie would be left wide open in the slot taking a feed from Adam Withers beating Lenko to tie the game at 1. Miners would get a late marker when Nic Herringer scored his 7th of the season with 14 seconds left on the clock. Lakers out shot the Miners 14-7 but trail 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.

Jaedin Ness would tie the game up at 3:58 of the second finishing of a pretty passing play for his 13th of the season. Miners would take the lead back on the power play shortly after. Kyle Rosolowski’s blast from the point went wide but bounced right out to Terix Fischer-Kobes who buried it into the empty net at 6:23. Each team would get a couple power play chances later in the period but no more goals. 3-2 Miners lead after 40 minutes with the Miners holding a 12-10 edge in the shot department for the second period.

Miners would get an insurance goal on the power play Spencer Milne found the back of the net for his 6th of the year. Nic Herrington would add his 8th of the year into an empty net to finish off the scoring. English River Miners 5 Fort Frances Lakers 2.
