After playing at home last night the Fort Frances Lakers made the trip up the 502 then Hwy 105 to face the English River Miners at the Cochenour Arena. Izzy Ralsten would start for the Lakers while Michael Lenko would get the nod in net for the Miners.
Miners get an early jump in the game on the power play. Nic Herringer scores his 11th of the season at 2:41 snapping a shot past Ralsten. Brody Jennings would make it 2-0 Miners at 7:08 scoring his 7th on a wrist shot that beat Ralsten. Noah Loveday would score his 11th of the season at 12:55 beating Lenko. Miners would out shoot the Lakers 14-8 in the first period and after 20 minutes the Miners lead 2-1.
AP James Gushulak scored his first SIJHL goal at 2:32 of the second to tie the game at 2. Jaedin Ness would give the Lakers a 3-2 lead scoring his 21st on the power play at 12:14. Landon Russell who was in the box for the Ness goal would make up for it scoring a power play goal of his own at 13:09 to tie the game at 3. Shots on goal in the second period are tied at 12 and after 40 minutes this game is tied at 3.
James Gushulak would score his second of the night finishing off a pass from Julian Uhryniuk to give the Lakers a 4-3 lead at 10:15 of the third. Stratton Pickett cored his 7th of the season on the power play banging home a rebound at 12:48 to tie the game at 4. Lakers would get a late power play chance and it looked like this game was heading to OT when Jacob Siebenga picked off a Ralsten pass and would shoot the puck into an empty cage with Ralsten being caught out of position with 27 seconds left on the clock to give the Miners a 5-4 lead. Lakers could not convert with a 6 on 4 advantage and the game would finish 5-4 for the Miners.
Michael Lenko picked up his 12th win of the season for the Miners.
