Lakers @ Miners – November 7th, 2017

The Fort Frances Lakers make their way up the 105 to the Cochenour Arena to face the English River Miners.  Brett Aiken would get the start in net for the Lakers while Westin Cardwell got his second straight start for the Miners.

With an early power play opportunity the Lakers would open the scoring at 2:24 when Anthony Antonelli beat a screened Cardwell from the point.  The Lakers and Miners would alternate power plays before Zak Albers out a rebound past Aiken to tie the game at 11:56. Michael DiLullo would put the Miners up 2-1 at 14:07 with his 6th of the season.  Miners would out shoot the Lakers 16-11 and lead 2-1 after 20 minutes.

The Miners started the second off with a quick goal at 1:36 when Tucker Evans scored his first Junior ‘A’ goal beating Aiken.  The Miners would then get goals from  Stratton Pickett and Matt O’Neill 8 seconds apart to make it 5-1 Miners chasing Aiken from the game.  Rob Ivy  would take over between the pipes.At 9:28 Terix Fischer-Kobes got his first goal of the year finishing off a 2 on 1 with Cody Milgate.  Lakers would score their second power play goal at10:40 to make it 6-2 Miners. Spencer Milne, Cody Milgate and Colton Cameron’s power play goal would make it 9-2 for the Miners . The Miners scored 7 goals in the second whole out shooting the Lakers 23-9.

The only goal in the third period was scored by the Lakers. Jack Bernie scored his 4th of the season on the power play at 12:54.  That finished off the scoring for the night.  Miners outshot the  Lakers 47-30 and beat the Lakers 9-3 to move into 4th place in the SIJHL standings. Westin Cardwell picked up his 3rd win of the season.

Tonights “Goldcorp – Hard to Play Against” hard hat went to Tucker Evans with his first Junior ‘A’ goal as well as an assist.
