Lenko shines as Miners upend league-leading GM Ice Dogs

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The English River Miners received a solid 45-save effort from their starting goaltender Michael Lenko as he stood tall in aiding in his club’s 4-1 triumph over the Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading Dryden GM Ice Dogs Friday night at Cochenour Arena.

Dryden fired 18 shots on Lenko in the opening 20 minutes, but Lenko stopped them all as it remained scoreless.

The GM Ice Dogs did open the scoring 4:54 into the middle stanza on Braedyn Aubin’s 22nd of the season, but English River came right back and notched the equalizer 36 seconds later on a Dante Raposo effort.

The Miners then got the eventual game-winner at 17:24 on Sidney Gladue’s 21st of the campaign.

Gladue added another early in the third during a man advantage opportunity while Raposo iced it with an empty netter with 20 seconds to go for his second of the evening and seventh overall to round out the scoring.

English River defenceman Trevor Pereverzoff chipped in with two assists for his side.

Patrick Zubick faced 27 shots in defeat for Dryden.
