Miners’ Lenko named SIJHL – Play It Again Sports player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that English River Miners goaltender Michael Lenko has been named the Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Jan. 15.
In a pair of road starts over the weekend, the 19-year-old Gabriola Island, B.C., product won both of them while allowing just two goals against in total to backstop English River to a pair of triumphs over the Thunder Bay North Stars.
Friday evening Lenko turned in a stellar 44-save effort as the Miners edged the North Stars 2-1.
He then made another 36 stops Saturday in a 3-1 victory at the Fort William Gardens.
Lenko wrapped up the week with a stingy 1.00 goals-against average along with an impressive .976 save percentage helping English River stay above .500 on the season.
Also earning consideration for Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:
