Miners @ Norskies – November 17, 2017

After losing in a 6 round shoot out the English River Miners are back at the Mini Ralph to face the Thief River Falls Norskies. Michael Lenko gets the start for the Miners while the Norskies stay with Brock Lefebvre.

AfterThe first 10 minutes of the first period run of the clock without much flow Matt O’Neill would open the scoring with his 6th of the season at 14:19. Once again the Miners would let the Norskies back in when Michael Johnson would beat Lenko on the power play for his 5th of the year. Neither side could do any more damage and after 20 minutes the game is tied at 1.

Miners get an early power play opportunity in the second period but could not convert. That would be followed by 5 straight power plays for the Norskies including a lengthy 5 on 3. The Miners penalty kill was working and they were able kill them off. After not having many chances Michael DiLullo would notch his 7th of the year at 18:28.After 40 minutes of play the Miners hold a 2-1 lead.

The Miners would get an early power play chance in the 3rd period and Kyle Rosolowski would beat Lefebvre to give the Miners a 3-1 lead. At 12:09 Mitchell Soderberg would score to make it a one goal game. Michael DiLullo would score his second of the night at 13:35 to give the Miners a two goal lead. The Miners defence would step up for the rest of the way including the last 2:17 with Lefebvre on the bench for the extra attacker. After blown leads against the Norskies in the last 3 games the Miners hold on and give the #1 ranked team in the country their first loss.

Michael Lenko would be awarder the Goldcorp “Hard to Play Against” award for the game.

Miners take 3 of 4 points from the Norskies and will now head to Hoyt Lakes, MN for a 2 game series against the Iron Rangers.
