The Miners face off for the second game against the Thief River Falls Norskies looking to bounce back after being shut out the night before. Before fans even hit their seats the Norskies put in 2 quick goals ending Josh Breznick’s night 1:10 into the game. Michael Lenko relieved Breznick but didn’t have any better luck as the Norskies scored 2 more goals. All ready down 4 the Miners took a penalty late in the period and the Norkies scored on the power play to make it 5-0. Despite outshooting the Norskies 14-10 the Miners poor defensive zone play ,the inability to get the puck out of their own end hurt and not capitalizing on opportunities cost the Miners.
The second period saw the Miners finally beat Brock Lefebvre when Jared Janke scored his first of the year at 9:09. Cody Aarvig scored his 3rd of the year to make the score 6-1 Norskies after 40 minutes. The penally filled second period saw the Norskies outshoot the Miners 19-5.
The third period had Parker Simonson score his league leading 11th goal at 6:06. That rounded out the scoring and the final score in the penalty filled affair is 7-1 for the Norskies. The Miners managed to get 8 shots on net in the third period. After outshoooting the Norskies in the first period the Miners were outshot 34-13 in the last 2 periods and 44-27 on the night.
The Miners now have 2days off to regroup before facing Fort Frances Tuesday night then host the Thunder Bay Northstars at the Cochenour Arena Thursday October 19th.
