Miners rally to upend Iron Rangers

COCHENOUR, Ont. – The English River Miners rallied from a two-goal deficit to help them upend the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-3 Saturday night in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Cochenour Arena.

The visiting Iron Rangers came out strong, skating out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play thanks to Garrett Wojcicki at even strength at 13:34 and Eli Kinsman with 66 seconds left in the session while his side was shorthanded.

English River battled back in the middle stanza as they struck three times to take a 3-2 cushion into the final frame.

Nic Herringer notched the first two Miners’ markers in the session before Sam Cirone put the home side in front at 19:18.

A Spencer Milne blast from the right wing went high on Minnesota starter Rob Ivy two minutes into the third for the eventual game-winner.

Mark Ziobro’s first as a member of the Miners made it 5-2 before Mark Sanchez potted his 11th for the Iron Rangers with 5:36 remaining in regulation.

Minnesota pulled Ivy in the late going in an attempt to get closer, but Ethan Wong scored into an empty net for English River to secure the come from behind victory.

Michael Di Lullo doled out three assists for the Miners while teammate Kyle Rosolowski had a pair.

Shots on goal saw Michael Lenko make 26 saves to pick-up the win while Ivy was busy seeing 50 shots fired his way in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
