Miners Sign Sweet-Coulter To Contract Extension

Red Lake, ON. – The English River Miners have signed Head Coach/ GM Derek Sweet-Coulter to a new contract extension that will keep him in his position on a three-year deal. Sweet-Coulter oversaw the team’s most successful season in 2016/17 with a franchise record 31 wins in the regular season.

English River Miners Board of Directors gave the following statement. “The Miners organization is extremely happy to have Derek back for another three seasons in his dual role as General Manager and Head Coach of the English River Miners. The amount of hard work Derek has dedicated to the program both on and off the ice has not gone unnoticed by the organization making the decision to extend his contract not only an easy one but one well deserved.”

Sweet-Coulter inherited a team that went 10-45-5 in 2014/15 finishing last in the SIJHL standings. He has moulded the English River Miners into a hard working team with a never quit attitude. Sweet-Coulter has also implemented a culture that has players volunteering in the community.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Miners organization for the next 3 years as we continue to build and develop a solid program.” Stated Sweet-Coulter. “I would like to thank my staff and our players who have worked extremely hard for this organization on and off the ice. Without their hard work and determination to get better every day I wouldn’t be in this position.

The English River Miners are just starting their SIJHL semi-final series with the Thunder Bay North Stars. The next home game at the Cochenour Arena will be April 5th & 6th at 7:30 pm.
