Miners’ strike 3 times on the power play in win over Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The English River Miners scored the game’s first six goals, including three on the power play, to help them defeat the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-1 Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Up a man late in the opening period, English River got on the board with 33 seconds left in the stanza on a Kaden Hintz man advantage effort as he notched his first of the season.

The Miners then broke it open in the middle stanza as they struck four times to go up 5-0 after two.

Dante Tisi had the first two markers, including one during a man advantage, while Dwayne Auger and Nash Dabb supplied even strength efforts.

Colton Johnson put the visitors up by a half dozen early in the third before Minnesota’s Joe Mata dashed Spencer Eschyschyn’s shutout bid with just over eight minutes remaining, while up a man, to round out the night’s scoring.

English River held the edge in shots on net as well by a 45-31 count with Eschyschyn picking up the win and Jackson Nelson the loss.
