Miners win 4th straight with triumph over Lakers

RED LAKE, Ont. – Ryder Prue tallied three times and helped set-up another to propel the English River Miners to their fourth consecutive Superior International Junior Hockey League victory Tuesday night after they doubled up the visiting Fort Frances Lakers 6-3 at Cochenour Arena.

It took the Miners just 36 seconds to get on the board in this one after Sidney Gladue collected his eighth on the season early on.

The score stayed that way until a Fort Frances power play marker courtesy of Julian Uhryniuk levelled the proceedings 6:38 into the middle stanza.

English River bounced back and struck three times in just over a three-minute span to go up 4-1 on a pair efforts supplied by Prue sandwiched around a single from Dante Tisi, who notched his first SIJHL goal.

Jack Bernie got one back for the Lakers late in the second to bring his club within a pair entering the third.

Colton Johnson’s initial league tally put the Miners up 5-2 at 4:07 of the final frame.

Jared Virtanen brought Fort Frances closer with 5:18 remaining as he extended a consecutive game point streak to eight in the process.

Prue would finish things off offensively for the home side with 17 seconds to go as he completed his hat trick with an empty netter to wrap things up.

Matt O’Neill dished out three assists to aid the Miners cause while Gladue had two helpers as he ran a point streak to a half dozen.

Spencer Eschyschyn made 28 saves to record the win for English River.

Brandon Bodnar started for the Lakers and allowed three against on 22 attempts while Ryan Wagner suffered the loss in relief as he gave up two on 19 shots.
