Norskies’ Simonson named SIJHL Play It Again Sports player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thief River Falls Norskies forward Parker Simonson has been named the Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Oct. 1.

In two outings over the weekend the 20-year-old from Bismarck, N.D., picked up four points helping Thief River Falls register a pair of wins and remain unbeaten early this season.

He began by supplying the tying goal in the third period Friday in a contest his side would win on the road, via a shootout, at Minnesota Friday.

One night later he tallied twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist as Thief River Falls finished off a home-and-home sweep of the Iron Rangers at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Simonson has scored goals in each of the Norskies’ four games this season and currently leads all SIJHL skaters in tallies with six while sitting tied for second in overall offensive production with eight points.

Also earning consideration for SIJHL Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:

Logan Sawka, (G) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Troy Sherman, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Ethan Wong, (F) English River Miners; Nick Lucas, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Mark Sanchez (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
