Norskies win 6th straight with convincing victory over Miners

COCHENOUR, Ont. – A well-balanced offensive attack that featured goals from eight different skaters propelled the Thief River Falls Norskies to their sixth Superior International Junior Hockey League victory in a row Sunday as they rolled over the English River Miners 8-2 at Cochenour Arena.

Thief River Falls took early control of the contest as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one period of play.

Mitchell Soderberg at even strength and Jack Dunnell shorthanded started the Norskies off before Trevor Pereverzoff added a man down marker for the Miners.

However, while still on the power play, Alec Daman’s 18th added to the visitors cushion.

They then picked up another 46 seconds later on a Connor Schuster effort.

Parker Simonson made it 5-1 seven minutes into the middle stanza with man advantage marker.

English River got one back while up a man midway through the contest compliments of Sidney Gladue, but Cody Aarvig notched his club’s second shorthanded tally at 16:07 to make it 6-2 after two.

Thief River Falls then put the game away in the third thanks to Jared Pederson’s fifth of the campaign and the Norskies fifth special teams’ goal of the night courtesy of Connor Smith as he connected on the power play with eight minutes left to round out the scoring.

Tommy Stang and Keaton Huot dished out two assists each to aid the winners cause.

Ryan Buttazzoni made 31 saves to record the win for Thief River Falls.

Spencer Eschyschyn allowed seven against on 24 shots and suffered the loss in just under 42 minutes of work while Michael Lenko stopped 16 of 17 in relief.

The same two teams meet again Monday afternoon in a 2:30 p.m. Family Day matinee back at Cochenour Arena.
