Siebenga scores 2 as Miners defeat Lakers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Jacob Siebenga scored twice to help the English River Miners defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 4-2 in a Superior International Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at Ice for Kids Arena.

Siebenga started English River off by scooping a feed up from Terix Fischer-Kobes then skated in and fired a shot past Fort Frances starter Matt Booth midway through the opening frame.

He then added his second of the session and 20th overall at 14:02 to put them up by a pair.

Christian Ward got one back for the Lakers in the final moments of the frame to pull the home side to within one.

Fort Frances then drew level at 15:48 thanks to Ian Jarvis only to see Brody Jennings bury the eventual game-winner just 80 seconds later for the Miners.

English River added some insurance in the third period on Spencer Milne’s 17th at 4:16 to round out the scoring.

The Lakers did outshoot the Miners 43-35 with Michael Lenko picking up the win while Booth suffered the loss.
