Thief River Falls rebounds for win over English River

COCHENOUR, Ont. – A night after being humbled by the English River Miners, the Thief River Falls Norskies rebounded with an impressive defensive effort against the same opponent by skating to a 3-0 victory Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Cochenour Arena.

Friday saw the Miners hand the Norskies their worst loss of the season, but Alec Severson helped Thief River Falls start strong on this night as he picked up the lone goal of the first period.

After a scoreless middle session, Severson added another 8:35 into the third to put the visitors up by a pair.

Jared Pedersen then iced it for the Norksies with a late empty netter to cap off the win.

Thief River Falls goaltender Bailey Schmitz was solid throughout stopping all 32 shots he faced to post his second shutout of the season.

Miners’ starter Michael Lenko suffered the loss allowing two against on 27 attempts.
