Early outburst leads English River over Fort Frances

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The English River Miners stormed out to an early three-goal lead, which propelled them to an eventual 5-2 decision over the Fort Frances Lakers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at Ice for Kids Arena.

It was all Miners in the opening 20 minutes as they picked up tallies from Ethan Wong and Nic Herringer at even strength sandwiched around a Terix Fischer-Kobes power play marker to set the tone early.

Fort Frances did battle back in the middle session though on a pair of goals from Jaedin Ness, including one via a man advantage to pull the Lakers to within one heading into the third.

The final frame though saw the visitors’ Dante Tisi connect on an early power play effort in the third before Spencer Milne supplied some insurance at 13:54 to round out the scoring.

Wong and Jacob Siebenga chipped in with two assists apiece for English River.

The Miners outshot Fort Frances 32-30 with Michael Lenko picking up the win while Ismael Ralsten suffered the loss.
