Norskies’ Simonson named SIJHL Play It Again Sports player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thief River Falls Norskies forward Parker Simonson has been named the Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Oct. 15.

In two outings last week the 20-year-old from Bismarck, N.D., racked up five points helping Thief River Falls extended their franchise-best winning streak to eight to begin the 2017-18 campaign.

Simonson began by tallying twice, including the game-winner, as the Norskies blanked the visiting English River Miners 3-0 at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Saturday he scored again, giving him goals in all eight games this season, and set-up two more in a 7-1 romp over the Miners.

The Thief River Falls standout currently leads all SIJHL skaters in goals, points and game-winning markers with 11, 16 and three respectively.

The Norskies will put their eight-game winning streak on the line Friday as they pay a visit to Dryden where they will take on the second place GM Ice Dogs (6-0-1-1) in a 7:30 p.m. start at Memorial Arena.
